Paying homage to the original ZHP package on the 2003-2006 E46 3-Series, BMW has released the updated BMW 435i ZHP Coupe for 2016. Thanks to a raft of M Performance upgrades including a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine with improved air intake and ECU, the 435i is capable of 335 bhp and 332 pound-feet of torque, which translates to a 0-60 time that is 0.2 seconds faster than the standard 435i Coupe. Handling has been improved on with Adaptive M Suspension, a Variable Sport Steering system, and M Sport Brakes. The exterior has not been neglected either, seeing additions of a carbon fiber front splitter, rear spoiler and rear diffuser, and finished off with M Performance badging and an Alpine White or Black Sapphire metallic paint job. Limited to only 100 units, the pricing of the car has yet to be announced.
You can buy a jetski. Or a boat. But why learn how to pilot a new craft when you already know how to drive a car? The Wavekat P70 Personal Watercraft uses the same steering wheel and foot throttle as your car, making piloting it as simple as sitting down and driving. It relies on an asymmetric catamaran hull design for a stable ride, lets you make sharp 90-degree turns with virtually no loss of speed, and has a top speed of over 35 knots, or more than 40 mph.
It’s hard to believe it’s been 65 years since the original Type 2, known to many as the Volkswagen Bus. Now 12 million delivers later, the German auto maker pulls the curtain back on the sixth generation of its Transporter van series, the VW T6.
While remnants of the vans from yesteryear are certainly present, the T6 was built for the modern age. It sports a boxy silhouette, and comes with modern day tech like LED headlights and taillights, heated windscreen, electrically operated tailgate, infotainment system with 6.6-inch center console, adaptive cruise control and a whole lot more. The vehicle is powered by a new generation 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine, and will even be offered up in a turbocharged version.
You could argue that the passenger seat is largely redundant in a chauffeur-driven vehicle, aside from providing a handy place for the driver to put their packed lunch and newspaper. Volvo is looking to make better use of that space – for the rear-seat passenger at least – by removing the passenger seat and replacing it with a multi-purpose luxury footrest.
Launched at the Shanghai International Auto Show, the Volvo Lounge Console is a concept designed to provide chauffeur-driven businesspeople with extra storage and comfort. The console sits in place of the passenger seat and incorporates a mirror, TV screen and storage compartment.
For buyers who want to keep up with work on the move, the Lounge Console incorporates an aircraft-aping tray table that provides space for a computer and notes. Rolling the table 90 degrees reveals another one of the Lounge Console’s tricks in the form of a 17-inch TV screen that puts the 10- and 11-inch rear-seat media units in other luxury cars to shame.
Opening up the tray table reveals a fully illuminated vanity mirror, which includes a storage tray for jewellery or makeup. Hiding underneath the Lounge Console’s padded leg rest is a storage compartment designed for for the well-heeled’s shoes, while Volvo has also included a lockable storage box, just in case owners have anything they want to hide from a shifty chauffeur. The uninterrupted front view is also claimed to give the impression of a more spacious ride.
So what has inspired Volvo’s decision to remove the passenger seat? If you ask the company, it will probably say the idea came from something along the lines of “ethnographic research to establish the unexpressed and unmet needs of people with a high-profile lifestyle.”
But we suspect it has more to do with the burgeoning Chinese luxury market. After all, Volvo used the Shanghai Auto Show to unveil a new ultra-luxury Excellence version of its XC90 SUV, while Audi used the show to display a long wheelbase A6 exclusively designed for China. So it’s no surprise to see manufacturers going above and beyond to win the attention of China’s new-money luxury car buyers.
The Lounge Console is only a concept for now, with no word from Volvo on whether it will make production or not.
If owning a yacht wasn’t extravagant enough, how about one designed by one of the most storied luxury automotive makers in the world? In an exercise in pure opulence, Quintessence Yachts has collaborated with Aston Martin on the AM37 powerboat, the first model in what is expected to be a series of water crafts from the two. The 37-foot vessel is the ultimate in performance and comfort, combining the expertise of both brands in their respective fields to produce a high-technology composite structure that boasts sports car-like handling, an interactive voice control and activation, fully HD-integrated touchscreen, and remote controlled functions.
Cadillac set the automotive world on fire when they announced that the new CTS-V would be pumping out 640 horsepower, with a top speed of 200 mph.
For most people, that kind of power would more than suffice, but Hennessey Performance isn’t most people. The car customizers at Hennessey decided to turn things up a notch building the 1,000 horsepower 2016 HPE1000 Twin Turbo Cadillac CTS-V.
So how did the mad men create such a powerful 4-door? The crew kept the 6.2-liter V8, but ditched the factory supercharger in favor of a twin turbo-charger setup. The goal is to hit 240 mph, and be crowned the world’s fastest four-door sedan. The vehicle is also outfitted with a wide bodykit, larger wheels and a set of carbon-ceramic brakes on all four corners. Only 24 HPE 1000s will be produced, and with specs like this, we imagine they will have no problem selling out.
